Meet Reed Boettcher

Reed Boettcher is a lifelong Ada resident who joined the Ada Evening News in March of this year as a compositor, which is a newspaper way of saying he builds advertisements for area businesses. Reed I quick to point out his real interest, though, is offering creative tips designed to attract readers’ attention and better showcase the important messages local merchants and service providers are trying to get across to their current and potential customers.

Reed is a 2006 East Central University grad who financed his education by working in construction. When it was all said and done, he had earned a degree in Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Art Media Graphics. While at the school he got some valuable newspaper experience under his belt during a stint with the ECU Journal, working as a photographer, feature writer and cartoonist.

It doesn’t take much probing, though, to learn his great passions in life are his family (wife, Gloria and daughters Isabell, 5, and Lydia, 3), and the great outdoors. When he isn’t at work or with his family (or at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he is a member), Reed hears the distant cry of the call of the wild. He loves being in the woods hunting wild boar with dogs and a knife, or elk in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming with his black powder rifle, or sitting on an Alaskan bank reeling in halibut, to name a few. And while these things represent his avocation, that same sense of adventure often finds its way into his vocation as he works to help the newspaper’s advertisers "reel in” customers with creativity his weapon of choice.
