ECU Graduate to Serve on State Disability Commission; Stresses Confidence is Key to Employment Success
OKLAHOMA CITY – Steve Shelton, an East Central University graduate, will continue to serve on the Commission for Rehabilitation Services, which is the three-member governing board for the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services. DRS served more than 68,750 people with disabilities in 2008 through vocational rehabilitation, employment, residential and outreach education programs and the determination of medical eligibility for disability benefits. A former DRS client who is legally blind, Shelton is a senior application programmer and consultant for Fidelity National Information Services. He credits education and job placement assistance provided by DRS’ Visual Services and Vocational Rehabilitation program as a key factor in his successful information technology career. Shelton graduated from East Central University in 1977 with a bachelor’s of science degree in mathematics and minors in computer science and accounting.
