Ada — POTTSBORO, Texas — The East Central men’s golf team, behind a 1-2 finish from freshman Travis Keeley and senior Zac Pool, won the championship of the Crawford-Wade Lion Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72 Tanglewood Resort Course.
ECU, which was tied for third after Monday’s first round with a team score of 316, fired off a 303 on Tuesday to finish at 619 and win the tournament by five shots over second-place St. Mary’s (Texas) and Oklahoma Baptist University. Those team teams each carved out a 624.
Keeley, who was third place after firing a 74 on Monday, finished up with a 75 on Tuesday to finish with a 149, which was 5-over for the tourney.
Pool, after shooting a 77 in the opening round, fired a 74 of his own as he and four other golfers tied for second and finished two shots back at 151, which was 7-over.
Keeley showed consistency throughout the two-day event as he led the field with 29 pars. He was also among the leaders in par 3, par 4 and par 5 scoring.
Sophomore Bryeson Lance also excelled in the tournament for the Tigers as he tied four others for seventh place. After recording a 78 on Monday, he fired a 76 on Tuesday to finish with a 154, which was 10-over for the event.
Lance had five birdies for the tournament while Pool ended up with four.
Also for ECU, freshman Dakota Robbins tied for 45th place with a 165. After shooting an 87 on Monday, he came through, breaking 80, with a nifty 78 to help propel the Tigers to the tournament victory. Teammate and junior Colton Johnson tied for 63rd place with a 180 (96-84).
Henderson State (Ark.) was fourth in the team standings at 626, followed by host Texas A&M-Commerce (627), Harding (634), Ouachita Baptist (635), Midwestern State (636), Arkansas-Fort Smith (640), Southeastern Oklahoma State (657), Southern Arkansas (676), Incarnate Word (676) and Oklahoma Panhandle State (677).
There were 13 teams and 70 individuals represented in the event.
