ADA,OK--East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma paid tribute to a former president--someone they called a visionary leader. The university officially dedicated their University Center in honor of former president Dr. Bill Cole. Dr. Cole served as ECU's sixth president and held the position for seventeen years before he passed away in March of this year. No, on his birthday, friends and family said they remember Dr. Cole as a builder--more than twenty buildings, including the University Center, were renovated or built during his tenure. "The Memorial Student Union, which is across the street, was really the only place the students had to go and hang out and be with each other," said current President John Hargrave, concerning the time before the University Center was built. "Dr. Cole thought they deserved a newer, bigger, more modern facility and he envisioned the University Center, which we are so proud to name in his honor here today." The center opened back in 1997. The Board of Regents named the center after Dr. Cole back in February. Luke Small, KTEN News
